My top 6 healthy pantry ingredients

In my opinion, if you have a well stocked pantry, full of healthy ingredients, then you are on a path to success with living a healthy lifestyle. I thought I'd share my favourite pantry essentials with you, so if you are starting your whole food journey, this might make the transition a little easier. 

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar - I love Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)! I have it each day in water to help alkalise & detoxify my body & boost my energy levels. It's great in salad dressings, sauces & smoothies. Studies suggest that it is also useful to curb sweet cravings & reduce your appetite. I have a teaspoon of ACV in my water each morning after I wake up & also in the afternoon if I'm feeling a bit sluggish.

2. Coconut Oil

Organic, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil - coconut oil has a high smoke point, so it is great for frying & cooking at high temperatures. It also has a myriad of health benefits, with studies suggesting that it improves heart health & aids with weight loss. I also use it as a moisturiser & to whiten my teeth. My favourite coconut oil is the My favourite coconut oil is the I am foods Organic Coconut Oil. 

I use Coconut Oil in so many different ways. I start my day with a coffee made with Coconut Oil & Grass-fed butter (this is called Bullet-proof coffee) & I love to use it in cooking & raw chocolate.

3. Organic Raw Cacao

Cacao is the powder that comes from cold pressed cacao beans. There is a major difference between Cocoa v Cacao. Cocoa is roasted at high temperatures, which reduces the enzymes & health benefits of this beautiful bean. Raw Cacao is a chocolatey, nutrient rich superfood which is AMAZING! It is high in iron, magnesium, antioxidants & is a natural mood elevator & anti-depressant. My favourite Cacao is the I am Foods Raw Cacao - it is super lush & chocolatey & makes all of my raw chocolate taste amazing. 
 

4. Murray River pink salt

Murray River pink Salt is a natural forming salt that is farmed in Mildura, VIC. It is not mined like Himalayan salt, rather it is evaporated from naturally saline groundwater resources, this makes it a more sustainable choice than Himalayan salt. It is highly mineralised & has potassium, iodine, iron, calcium & magnesium in it. It has a subtle flavour, which I love to use in my sweet & savoury dishes. Read more about Murray River Salt

If you've ever been to my cooking classes, you'll know how much I love honey. There is very good reason behind this. I only buy Raw & Organic honey, from a local apiarist. He tells me which seasonal blends he has & packs it into containers for me. The honey is so fresh that there are often bees buzzing around his drums of honey.

I love honey because it is: antibacterial, anti-fungal & a natural healer that can be used topically on cuts & wounds, plus it tastes delicious. Back in the days before conventional medicine, honey was used to treat cuts & wounds. Honey can also be useful for alleviating allergies. Whenever you buy honey, always get the best that you can afford - don't buy honey that has been heat treated, from overseas or honey that has sugar added to it.

6. Lupins

I recently came across Lupins via The Lupin Co & have fallen in love with this lovely legume. Lupins are gluten-free, high in protein, low in carbs & high in protein. They are also packed with minerals & anti-oxidants. Quite the superfood! I have been using them to replace Rice, and served them as a side-dish to curries & stir-fries. They can also be used in baking as a flour replacement. Last night I had lupins on the side of my Vegetable curry, it was delicious!
